Military and Aviation Safety

Concerns

Communication in loud environments is a task that the Military have been combating on a constant basis. Between heavy armored vehicles, the roar of jet engines and open seas, the various military arms are always looking for ways to maintain communication in such loud conditions, where vital messages can mean life and death.

To give a prime example, the loading and ground crews of some of the large planes used in the Airforce often have to rely on hand signals and other forms of communication to be informed of anything like an attack. In a ‘hot’ landing zone where gunfire may be deafening, such communication is normally impossible.

How theBoom works

The boom works in several ways to help the armed forces. All of the headsets are capable of interacting with all known radios, mobile communications devices and satellite phones. In such situations such as search and rescue, the microphone may be exposed to winds, rain, surf and physical damage, but after extensive testing, theCobra has become the standard mic on several Blackhawk Helicopters and other Military vehicles.

The way this is accomplished is by using two key elements in the UmeVoice product line. The first is theCobra noise-canceling microphone and theBoom Bone Conduction headsets.

Design

theCobra is an acoustically-designed, passive, noise canceling microphone that this used in Blackhawk helicopters, nuclear power plants and aviation worldwide. Its patented technology means that you can whisper next to a 120 decibel compressor and still be heard by the other party on the end of the line. This means that communication is uninterrupted and as Harv Laser points out in his review, members of the Search and Rescue forces are able to turn the sensitivity down on the mic, allowing for less false activations on the voice-activated communication system.

theBoom Bone Conduction headset is also used in Blackhawk helicopters and nuclear power plants. The headset rests on the cheekbone or temple and transmits sound via the bone structure in your head directly to the small bones in the inner ear. This means a user can be wearing double ear protection (such as ear plugs and ear guards) and still be able to hear the voice with crystal clarity, all the time protecting their ears.

UmeVoice has made it a top priority in their design process to keep the men and women in our armed forces, law enforcement and security professions safe by allowing for clear communication in any situation.
